A new photo of an iPad 3 logic board with an “A5X” chip (or system on a chip) has surfaced in a forum post on a chinese website. If this picture turns out to be valid, that would indicate that previously beliefs that the iPad 3 would feature a new Apple A6 processor would be invalid. The original iPad had an Apple A5 chip and the iPad 2 features an A5 chip, so this led to wide speculation that the iPad 3 would continue this progression and feature Apple’s new A6 chip architecture. There are other notable features on this board, such as a pair of 16gb flash memory chips onboard as well.
Apple is widely expected to release the new iPad 3 on March 7th, 2012. Consumers are looking forward to an 4G LTE version, high-resolution Retina display, and of course a quicker processor.
